Contra costa Climate justice policy
Disadvantaged populations have been most impacted by climate change and will continue to be impacted first and hardest. We need to support them by backing legislation and regulations that engages those communities, reduces the harms they are suffering now, and mitigates the harm they will face in the future.
Policy 1
Advocate for Strong Environmental Justice General Plan Elements as part of various jurisdiction’s general plan updates (ref Pinole’s 2/1/2022 meeting).
Policy 2
Back Legislation that implements Climate Justice- Just Transition, Wetlands Mitigation.
Policy 3
Support community groups looking to get grants from for Environmental justice work- one example being CalEPA at https://calepa.ca.gov/envjustice/.
Additional Policies
Comply with SB 1000 and either create an environmental justice element or implement environmental justice concepts throughout the General Plan.
