Contra costa political reform policy

Every eligible voter should have the opportunity to be able to vote in an accessible, honest, and transparent manner. We should demand transparency in voting systems and system software, work for increased voter participation through outreach efforts, education, and lowering the voting age as well as increase voting areas (vote-by-mail, drop-off locations, voter centers). Additionally, we should care about reforming our antiquated recall laws, defend voter protection, support a popular vote, support the ability for communities to choose alternate voting systems, and demand accessibility and accountability from candidates and elected officials.

Policy 1

Support the California Voting Rights Act

Policy 2

Support lowering the voting age.

Policy 3

Actively work with the Contra Costa Registrar, colleges, and lawmakers to ensure colleges and high schools have voter drop-off locations that are accessible to young people.

Additional Policies

  1. Raise the requirement for recall signatures.

  2. Lower the cost to file to run for office.

  3. Money out of politics and minimize big corporations contributing to local races (endorsing and encouraging candidates to rely on small donations).

  4. All jailed persons (misdemeanors and felonies) have the right to vote.

  5. Emulate Seattle's "democracy dollars" programs.

  6. Standardize agendas and minutes require all cities to post campaign donations of council members online.

  7. All candidate filings go through the clerk-recorder’s office.
