Contra costa TRANSIT policy

As a matter of both climate change and increasing the quality of life, transportation policy should focus more on mass transit and bicycling and less on personal automobiles. We believe in thriving communities where car use isn't the only option to get around, but rather a multitude of transit options that ultimately increase the air quality, promote socialization, and healthier lifestyles.

Policy 1

Support Seamless Bay Area policies and programs, which will further integrate our region and create economic opportunities for young Dems. https://www.seamlessbayarea.org/vision-map

Policy 2

Invest in a major regional transit stop for every incorporated community in Contra Costa. No community should free ride on our freeways without investing in public transit infrastructure.

Policy 3

Support Vision Zero policies. Every mode of transit should be safe and efficient; cars should be subordinate to people.

Additional Policies

  1. Maintain or increase road and freeway tolls so that drivers pay the full cost of their transit decisions.

  2. Invest new revenue in public transit.

  3. Maintain or increase gas taxes. Invest new revenue in public transit.

  4. Ban large gas station price signs; gas stations should not be given a special exemption to advertise prices any more than other industries.

  5. Develop a network of protected bike lanes across cities to encourage bicycling, protect bikers and drivers alike, and lower carbon emissions.

  6. Institute "Complete Streets", which incorporates and encourages multi-modal transportation such as protected bike lanes, bus-only lanes, and traffic-calming features.

  7. Remove "parking minimum" policies to prevent the use of valuable land to build parking lots.
